4. Structure and Function of the Human Body

Human body is made up of billions of cells, which are always active and need energy for their survival. Activity within the cells is called metabolism. In the process of metabolism the cells produce metabolites or waste products, which are to be regularly drained. These impurities produced in our body are drained through eight drainage channels, the proper function of which is highly important. Our body comprises of many internal and external organs, 206 bones, 640 –800 muscles, 230 - 260 joints, countless ligaments and tendons. It has got countless nerves, billions of neurons, millions of blood vessels and capillaries. Survival and proper functioning of all the above structures need energy and energy is provided by nutrients. Distribution of nutrients to the cells depends on proper circulation of blood to all parts of the body.
